Finally after 3 years at SPARE shelter, Sindbad the amazing, extremely loyal, Handsome, Gentle, Senior pooch has been ADOPTED! smile emoticon Sindbad was adopted just over a week ago by a kind Egyptian man that wanted to give Sindbad a home, family and love in his old age... Sindbad is an indoors family member smile emoticon We WILL MISS Sindbad greatly, but are EXTREMELY HAPPY for him... Wishing them a few more years of happiness and loyal friendship together.

The least we can ever do for these sentient beings is give them the basic care and comfort they deserve and advising their caregivers and others of the proper ways to care for them via free/low cost treatments for those of no to little means and other ways.

Today a group of 19 students visit SPARE ..Part of a two day awareness session with the Egyptian Language School. Thanks to Seif ( Head student) for contacting SPARE and organizing the whole event with his School. The awareness session primarily focused on the history of Balady (stray) Dogs ( what are balady (Stray) dogs, History of dog domestication and our responsibility towards them, encouraging adoption and the need to SPAY/NEUTER...

Anisa, the almost 4 year old beautiful Light tabby and Fosdoka, the almost 1 year old Big beautiful Orange Tabby and white princess sharing a mother/daughter moment even though they are NOT related. Both came from different backgrounds. Anisa was saved by SPARE's president Amina from being thrown in to the Nile and Fosdoka was rescued as a tiny kitten on one of SPARE's TNRs.

Mau, once an abandoned friendly Egyptian Mau Cat on the streets was picked up by SPARE's TNR team. She was too friendly to go back to the dangers of Egyptian streets, so we decided to help her find a home. After over 9 months, she did find a home... and a very special home at that... Sherine a beautiful, kind and artistic Egyptian lady met Mau and both of them instantly clicked...

An Egyptian young man filled with kindness, charity and a great heart surprised us all and donated 15 blankets ( enough for 30 dogs when cut into two) for SPARE's dogs for the coming winter months! Ahmed Abdelhafeez, single handedly led a campaign to gather donations from his friends and family to buy blankets for the dogs... Most amazing of all is that young Ahmed has no vehicle, and using public transportation, with the help of his best friend, brought the heavy blankets to SPARE!

Karim, a handsome Egyptian Balady, was rescued months ago by an amazing man Called Ahmed. Ahmed an Egyptian/German was visiting in Tanta governorate when he met Karim. Karim was being abused by children in the street and Ahmed's relatives took him. After a long search for Karim's family yielded nothing, Ahmed decided to save and the helpless puppy a family. A long journey later, Ahmed brought Karim to SPARE in Cairo.

With EXTREME happiness and gratitude we announce Shafik is FINALLY safe and sound in Holland!!! YAY Shafik was dumped in the streets. like so many house pets in Egypt, and was brought to SPARE. Extremely gentle, kind and quiet... He 'fathered' so many of the cats that joined him in the cat shelter, giving them love and warmth... Finally his turn came to be safe and happy in lovely Holland.

Dear Friends and Supporters SPARE will no longer function as a shelter when it comes to intake of animals. As our policy has always been based on the ‘5 basic freedoms’ of animals, we do not keep cats and dogs beyond our shelter’s carrying capacity, and our shelter is small. However SPARE shall remain functioning as an Animal Protection Organization, focusing on long term sustainable solutions as we have been doing for the past 14 years.

Egypt's CBC Interview Spare's Founder and President Amina Tharwat Abaza. The Interview was in regards to the cruelty animals face in the Egyptian society everyday. Mrs Abaza discussed with great detail and emphasis on the importance of people changing their attitude towards animals...and especially how the many excuses used by the vast majority of Egyptians in condoning cruelty in general, especially the excuse of poverty, are utter nonsense. Rich or Poor, Men or Women etc... Empathy, Sympathy, kindness and especially a conscience need no "stereotyping" to a specific portion or group of the Egyptian society.

From outside cases needing help to caring for our resident animals, daily we care for many animals. Whether its free / low cost treatment we provide for the local community and those of lesser means to encourage them to keep seeking help and proper care for the animals under their care. Helping them is the least we can do to ease their pain / discomfort or simply routine checks to make sure all is okay. It is the least we can do to alleviate their discomfort.

Sadly pet ownership and breeding on an unprecedented scale has come to mean that everyone can now own a pet. Most have no Idea of the basic care inquired in having a pet. Our job is to advice and help change the perceptions that animals are 'things' and need help and encourage the caregivers to seek the "help" hence our low cost to free treatments.

It's extremely beneficial to the animals to have friendly and loving humans visit and spend quality time with them. It helps reconfirm to the animals - All rescued from horrible conditions - that 'Bad' humans are of the past and humans and their hands are a source of love, affection and positive interactions. Every one is welcome to visit and volunteer with the animals in any way.
